I have been taking Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen 10/325’s(Imprint “Watson 853) for about 6 months now for chronic pain. I usually take about 3 (30/975) every 6-8 hours. Today, my doctor switched me (for a trial period to see if it works better) from the Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen 10/325’s to Oxycodone/Acetaminophen 5/325’s (Imprint “512”). hydrocodone vs oxycodone
I’ve never taken any Oxycodone before and just wanted to know a little bit more about it in comparison to Hydrocodone. If I was taking 30mg of Hydrocodone every 6-8 hours, what would be the equivalent dose of Oxycodone? Is the “feeling” any different between the two (Granted, I will be taking the equivalent dose, not 30mg of the Oxycodone). I have been scared all day to take any because I don’t know if it’s going to affect me differently than the Hydrocodone has in the past. hydrocodone vs oxycodone

Oh my goodness, I have been on hydrocodone and switched to oxycodone. Definitely take the oxycodone, it works better. And then switch to oxycontin, which is the same as the oxycodone but without ANY acetaminophen. If you need 3 doses of pain meds at a time, 3 times a day, you can SAFELY be put on the oxycodone without damaging your body with acetaminophen. I wish my current pain management was as simple as this! Look up the medications online yourself; obviously the safest bet is controlling your pain without any damage to your body. I was on the Oxycodone for severe Athritis in my back and knees. It worked very well for me, and much better than the Hydrocodone meds. The only difference I noticed was better pain relief and more energy. I wish I was still on them. I had to change due to the cost of the medications. I believe your doctor’s change in dosage, reflects the proper dosing… don’t quote me, but I believe hydrocodone, is half as strong, per milligram, as oxycodone. That’s why recreational users prefer Percocet to Vicodin… a 10 mg Percocet is twice as strong, per miligram, than Vicodin at the same number of milligrams. Hence, your doctor changing you from 10 mg Vicodin to 5 mg of oxycodone, would fit my formula perfectly. …Votes: +0CA calken54 23 Jun 2019

Frankly, from someone that has taken every narcotic marketed for the past 30 years, Hydrocodone and Oxycodone, provided the OxyContin is not Oxycontin which is an extended release tab, IMO there really isn’t much difference as far as effects. hydrocodone vs oxycodone
As you know the first number in the formulation is the amount of active pain ingredient. You have been taking 10mg Hydrocodone/325 Tylenol… You claim he has given you 5mg Oxycodone / 325 mg Tylenol… So in essence he has lowered your dose. Oxycodone and hydrocodone are both semi-synthetic opioids and both are narcotics. Oxycodone has a duration of about 4-6 hours, where as hydrocodone has a duration of about 6-8 hours. 30mg of hydrocodone is equivalent to 20-25mg of oxycodone. In terms of effects, both will give you a similar feeling. Some subjective differences are oxycodone giving more of a stimulant effect, probably due to it being derived from thebaine. Both give adequate pain relief, and both are just as dangerous as the other in terms of developing an opioid addiction. Hope this helps,

Switching from 10 mg tid of Hydrocodone to 5 mg Oxycodone? You didn’t say how many per day of the Oxycodone??? But let’s say it’s the same as the hydrocodone and that it’s TID. If that’s the case then you’re probably going to experience more pain than what you did before because you’re going from 10 mg to 5 mg. And I don’t care what they say regarding the MME conversion factor by the government, 10 mg hydrocodone TID will give you more pain control than 5 mg of OxyCodone… TID. There are many sources to back me up on this issue so I don’t know why he’s doing that but he really needs to reevaluate you and study up himself on these Opiods and conversions and see just where you are regarding your pain by a good assessment. Most doctors don’t even touch pain patients anymore… they just look at you and ask questions and type away on their computers and that’s pitiful. hydrocodone vs oxycodone

From just life experience there’s not much of “feeling” different, yes. Well most likely yes. Both are narcotic pain relievers, hydro is water based and OxyContin is oxygen based. It depends on the person as to what side effects you may feel. Itchy nose, it’s too strong, so cut back. Either way the difference between them does not really “effect” of them, if your taking them for actual pain you may not feel any different, just less pain. Look everyone is making too much of this. Oxycodone (percocet) is a smaller dose with less tylonal and same effect. Norcos the hydrocodone is less effective and makes me itch alot. And wired. And too much tylonal. Look at ur dose and look at maximum tylonal dose… worthless. Doctors miss dose alot. Save ur kidneys. Oxycodone is just better and cleaner. And yes start 1/2 a tab and re assess in an hour. I do… Ive had fms for 12 years. Soma works great with less side effects. But you are you. You decide. Hope this helps. Your asking the wrong question. U should be asking should I even consider taking OxyContin. First a 5 mg OxyContin is same as 5 mg Percocet without the Tylenol. Oxycodone is 1.5 times stronger than hydrocodone. Having said that oxycodone should be avoided at all cost. You would have to take 3 to equal what u are looking for but the effect way stronger and tolerance builds fast. Should u run out of oxycodone after taking 15 mg three times a day you will be so sick. I take hydrocodone 10/325 up to 4 Times a day for a chronic back. Had a fusion 10 years ago. Took away most my pain but now as iI have as gotten worse somewhat with a fall about a year ago. I try to use many different ways of controlling pain. Some which is not cover by insurance. A medical certified massage therapist that can help treat these conditions has done wonders for me. Also I know oxycodone is much strong. I actually do better on it since for me it doesn’t make me sleepy. Don’t take both. You doctor can increase if nessary. I have found that the massage therapist has relieved some of my back and leg pain and even some shoulder pain and I don’t need the stronger ones. Sometimes one or two of the hydrocodone works. Try lots of options. physical thereapy, massage therapist( look for a good one medically certified) chiropractors a good one) , a good doctor too that just does had out pills, gabapentine works for nerve pain and is not narcotic. I know this response is 6 years late but just in case anyone else wants to know I will tell you that 5 mg of oxycodone is not even close to giving you the same “feeling” that 10 mg hydrocodone will. It would have to be more like 7.5 mg of oxy to equal 10 mg of hydro. I have been on Hydrocodone 10/325 for years. Seemed I was needing more as the years passed for the same relief. My doctor and I discussed how to cut back on the amount while still allow me to get out of bed and go to work. We are trying oxycodone 15. Such a small pill in comparison. So far it’s perfect to me. It take a bit longer to work but last considerably longer like the hydrocodone once did. The biggest perk is it doesn’t dull my senses or get that slight buzz feeling.
